Gildas Agonkan, l'ambassadeur du Bénin au Niger vient d'être rappelé à Cotonou.

La décision des autorités béninoises intervient suite aux dernières déclarations de l'ambassadeur accrédité à Niamey. Gildas Agonkan a présenté des excuses publiques au peuple nigérien lors de la cérémonie de remise des diplômes de la 7è promotion de l'Institut International de Santé (IIS) Koubeyni, à Gaya.

Cette démarche de l'ambassadeur du Bénin dans la crise diplomatique avec le Niger, est considérée comme solitaire, selon les informations.

Le différend entre les deux pays remonte au coup d'Etat contre le président Bazoum. Les tensions se sont exacerbées avec la fermeture des frontières nigériennes.

Niamey ne décolère pas malgré la main tendue de Cotonou. La situation tendait vers la normalisation avec les échanges d'ambassadeurs entre les deux pays.
Reste à savoir le sort qui sera réservé à l'ambassadeur Agonkan après son message de pardon à Gaya.

En Conseil des ministres, mercredi 12 février 2025, Angela Aquereburu Rabatel a été nommée Directrice générale de la Société de Radio et Télévision du Bénin (SRTB) S.A. et aussi Directrice de la télévision nationale.

La réalisatrice de cinéma Angela Aquereburu Rabatel est nommée à deux postes de responsabilité au Bénin. Elle est désormais à la tête de la Société de Radio et Télévision du Bénin (SRTB) S.A. Cumulativement avec ses fonctions de Directrice générale de la SRTB, elle va aussi assurer le poste de Directrice de la Télévision nationale.

Âgée de 48 ans, Angela Aquereburu Rabatel est Franco-togolaise. Elle est réalisatrice, productrice et auteure de fiction, présentatrice d'émissions télévisées et show runneuse togolaise.
La nouvelle Directrice générale de la SRTB a fait ses études de commerce à l'ESCP en France. Elle a débuté son aventure dans l'audiovisuel avec son époux Jean-Luc Rabatel, comédien français en créant en avril 2009 la société de production audiovisuelle ‘'Caring International''.

En 2015, ils passent à Yobo Studios avec pour l'objectif de fournir du contenu original « made in Togo » capable de rivaliser avec les productions internationales. Aquereburu Rabatel est auteure de plusieurs séries à succès.

Die Slowakei hat im Korruptionswahrnehmungsindex von Transparency International einen dramatischen Rückgang verzeichnet, indem es um zwölf Plätze auf den 59. Platz von 180 Ländern abgerutscht ist. Zurückzuführen sei die Entwicklung auf die umstrittenen Reformen der vierten Fico-Regierung.

Ce mardi 11 février 2025, un fonctionnaire de police, son épouse et leur enfant âgé de 2 ans ont péri dans un accident de circulation aux environs de 21h à Iffada, une localité de l'arrondissement de Gome dans la commune de Glazoué. Ils ont été percutés par un véhicule.

Accident mortel à Glazoué ce mardi 11 février 2025. Le bilan selon nos sources, fait état de trois morts, tous d'une même famille. Il s'agit d'un fonctionnaire de police en service à Dassa, et détaché au commissariat d'Aklankpa, dans la commune de Glazoué, son épouse et son enfant. Ils ont été tous percutés par un véhicule à hauteur de Iffada, une localité de l'arrondissement de Gome dans la commune de Glazoué. La femme au guidon, aurait perdu le contrôle pour se retrouver dans la même trajectoire que le véhicule. Erreur de conduite qui a été fatale à toute la famille.
Le mari, un agent de police de première classe en service au PSI Dassa, est père de trois enfants.

On 19 February, Committee on Foreign Affairs will host its first Interparliamentary Committee Meeting of the new legislative term. Over 40 members of national parliaments will be present to exchange views with AFET members. There will be two sessions, focusing on transatlantic relations in challenging times and the role of the European Union in an increasingly multipolar world. Rosa Balfour (Carnegie Europe) and Jim Cloos (TEPSA) will be the keynote speakers in the respective sessions.

On 13 January, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will participate in his first exchange of views with Members of AFET and SEDE as well as in association with the Delegation for relations with the NATO PA (DNAT). Discussion topics will include EU-NATO cooperation, efforts to strengthen NATO defence and deterrence, Russia's ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine and its implications for transatlantic relations as well as other regional and global security threats and common challenges.

On 14 January, Marta Kos, the new Commissioner for Enlargement, will discuss with AFET Members the next steps in EU enlargement and other issues related to her portfolio. There is currently a renewed momentum for enlargement, which represents a historic opportunity with significant socio-economic, political and security advantages for both the EU and the enlargement countries.

C’est une élection que peu de gens ont vue venir et qu’encore moins de gens souhaitaient. Pourtant, le scrutin du 23 février en Allemagne s’annonce comme le plus important que le pays ait connu depuis des décennies.

Senior European Defence Agency (EDA) officials briefed members of the defence industry community on 11 February 2025, ahead of a new European strategy to strengthen the European Union’s defence industrial base.  

The forum, hosted at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), came as the EU institutions, with input from EDA, prepare a ‘White Paper on the Future of European Defence’, which is expected in mid-March 2025. The EESC, as the voice of organised civil society, ensures that economic and social considerations are integrated into EU policymaking, and fosters dialogue between institutions and stakeholders. 

“The European defence base remains fragmented, characterised by a lack of joint procurement and national preferences for defence spending.  This results in small, localised markets with relatively low production numbers,” EDA Chief Executive Jiří Šedivý said. “It is only by cooperating more that Member States can strengthen the defence technological and industrial base, create economies of scale, and develop the defence capabilities our Member States need.” 

Call for 100-billion-euro budget

The white paper will outline strategies for funding, improving industrial competitiveness, supporting Ukraine, and addressing critical investment needs. Negotiations over the EU's next long-term budget, the EU Multiannual Financial Framework, are also due to start at the end of 2025.  Pietro de Lotto, President of the EESC Consultative Commission on Industrial Change, said: “We need to come together to protect our common security, common values and common future.” De Lotto called for a dedicated €100 billion in the next seven-year MFF and stressed the need for public understanding and support, noting that a strong defence strategy in a democratic society requires citizens to see the European defence industry as a force for peace and security, not conflict. 

Katarzyna Ananicz, the European Council’s chairwoman of the Council’s working party on defence industry, said that the current interpretation of defence investment in the EU fiscal rules governing national budgets was too narrow. Ananicz stresssed that investment should not only include the purchase of military equipment but capital support for arms, ammunition factories, investment in infrastructure used by the armed forces and the construction of shelters. 

In 2024, Member States are projected to have spent €326 billion on defence, equivalent to 1.9% of the EU’s GDP. EDA officials warned that it is still insufficient to meet security threats. Countries must work together to develop the European defence industrial base. “The defence industry is our partner, and we cannot develop military capabilities without industry,” said Baudouin Heuninckx, EDA’s deputy director for industry. 

Obstacles to financing

EDA briefed the EESC on some of the obstacles, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the defence sector. These companies face significant barriers to financing, despite the Union’s efforts to boost military spending, Šedivý told the forum. De Lotto warned that sidelining SMEs would weaken the EU and stressed the need to better integrate them into future defence projects and funding. The Commission’s Fabio Liberti, giving an update on industry support, urged that joint procurement is the best way forward.  

EDA outlined its 18 collaborative opportunities that were identified in its 2024 Coordinated Annual Review on Defence (CARD), the EU’s ‘State of the Union’ on defence. Four of these projects have already won political backing, including initiatives on integrated air and missile defence and electronic warfare. 

EDA’s Federica Valente also briefed the forum on EDA’s Hub for EU Defence Innovation (HEDI). HEDI is helping to identify and address future technological and operational needs of European armed forces, ensuring that they remain at the forefront of innovation and preparedness. EDA explained its revised Memorandum of Understanding with the European Investment Bank, which aims at improving financing access for defence projects. “They have financial knowledge; we have military expertise. This collaboration can help identify projects needing investment,” Šedivý said.

Im Falle eines von US-Präsident Donald Trump ausgehenden „Handelskrieg“ gegen Europa, werde Spanien immer auf der Seite Brüssels stehen, so Ministerpräsident Pedro Sánchez. Für die Unterstützung Trumps von rechts fand Sánchez ebenfalls wenig Verständnis.

The update will notably require that VAT be paid for services provided through online platforms, putting an end to an unfair distortion of competition. It will also fight VAT fraud.
