Angesichts der politischen und sozialen Lage in Nicaragua verlängerte der Rat die Sanktionsregelung um ein Jahr.

Der Rat hat eine Verordnung angenommen, mit der die Qualität der auf EU-Ebene erhobenen Bevölkerungs- und Wohnungsstatistiken insgesamt verbessert wird, indem ein gemeinsamer Rechtsrahmen für die Datenerhebung geschaffen wird.

CO₂-Grenzausgleichssystem (CBAM): Der Rat und das Parlament erzielen vorläufige Einigung über Vereinfachung.

Der Rat hat heute das Bodenüberwachungsgesetz verabschiedet. Darin ist die Überwachung der Bodengesundheit, der Umgang mit kontaminierten Standorten und die Minderung des Flächenverbrauchs geregelt. So sollen bis 2050 gesunde Böden erreicht werden.

Der Rat hat alle restriktiven Maßnahmen gegen Iran, die nach der Einführung des Gemeinsamen umfassenden Aktionsplans im Juli 2015 aufgehoben worden waren, wieder eingeführt. Zuvor hatte der VN-Sicherheitsrat beschlossen, die Aufhebung der Sanktionen gegen Iran nicht zu verlängern. So sieht es der „Snapback“-Mechanismus vor, der von den E3-Ländern ausgelöst wurde.
