European Council President António Costa invited leaders to an informal meeting of the members of the European Council on 22 January 2026 in Brussels, during which they will discuss recent developments in transatlantic relations and their implications for the European Union, and coordinate on the way forward.

The Council today opened a new excessive deficit procedure concerning Finland, and recommended next steps for the country to put an end to its excessive deficit by 2028.

The Council today formally adopted a decision to provide a further €500 million in macro-financial assistance (MFA) to Jordan.
