Die Rechtsaußen-Partei Lega um Matteo Salvini sieht die Rücknahme der umstrittenen Pestizidverordnung durch EU-Kommissionpräsidentin Ursula von der Leyen als Sieg der europäischen Bauernproteste. Hintergrund der lauten Kritik an von der Leyen könnte auch deren enge Koordinierung mit Italiens Ministerpräsidentin sein.

Die tschechischen Konservativen lehnen einen kolportierten Beitritt der Fidesz-Partei des ungarischen Ministerpräsidenten Viktor Orbán zur Fraktion der Europäischen Konservativen und Reformer (EKR) ab. Das Problem sei seine Haltung zur Ukraine.

Die Europäische Kommission hat am Dienstag (6. Februar) ihre Empfehlungen für das EU-Klimaziel für 2040 vorgelegt. Sie plädiert für eine Senkung der Emissionen um 90 Prozent im Vergleich zu 1990 und ebnet den Weg zur Reduzierung der Emissionen der Industrie.

Ein Jahr nach dem verheerenden Erdbeben in der Türkei sind die Opfer der Katastrophe noch immer in provisorischen Wohneinrichtungen untergebracht. Präsident Erdogan hatte ursprünglich versprochen, neue Wohnhäuser in weniger als 12 Monaten aufzubauen.

Nach ursprünglicher Zustimmung wird sich Deutschland bei einem weiteren EU-Verkehrsgesetz der Stimme enthalten, heißt es aus Industriekreisen gegenüber Euractiv. Die FDP blockiere die Zustimmung zu den neuen CO2-Flottengrenzwerten für Lkw.

Bis 2030 hätte der Pestizideinsatz laut einer Verordnung der EU-Kommission halbiert werden sollen. Nun will die Präsidentin der Europäischen Kommission, Ursula von der Leyen, die umstrittene Verordnung allerdings zurücknehmen. Ein herber Schlag für die umweltpolitischen Ambitionen der EU.

On 13 February 2024 the Committee on Foreign Affairs will hold a presentation of an analysis 'The EU’s preventive diplomacy: Practice makes (not yet) perfect?' Members will have the opportunity to discuss with the authors the EU’s approach to preventive diplomacy, in particular in light of the deteriorating security and increasing geopolitical tensions worldwide.
The discussion will aim to identify the strengths and gaps of the EU's preventive engagements and provide contribution to more effective use of this tool, including by making use of the diplomatic work of the European Parliament.
