The smouldering dispute between Turkey and Greece looks set to intensify after a new incident. Ankara has accused Athens of threatening its jets in the airspace over the Aegean Sea, claims which the Greek side denies. Turkish President Erdoğan has now threatened Greece with the words 'we may come suddenly one night'. Commentators in both countries voice their concern.

In a surprise move, the powerful head of the Polish Public Television station TVP, Jacek Kurski, has been given his marching orders. Critics accuse Kurski of having turned the station into a PiS government mouthpiece. But commentators doubt whether his successor, Mateusz Matyszkowicz, will be any more pluralistic in his approach.

Debate: Can Truss lead Britain through the crisis?

The British Conservatives have elected Liz Truss to succeed Boris Johnson as party leader. With 57 percent of the vote she clearly beat rival Rishi Sunak, who received 42 percent. Truss will now become British prime minister until fresh elections are held, most likely in 2024. In view of Truss's ultra-liberal orientation, most commentators are sceptical that she will do a good job.

Debate: EU plans price cap on energy imports

The finance ministers of the G7 countries agreed on Friday to move forward on implementing a cap on the price of Russian oil. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also favours introducing a price cap on gas imports. Russia is threatening to cut off supplies entirely. Europe's press discusses who has more to lose.
