With the appeal "Let's get involved!" Laurent Joffrin, former editor-in-chief of the left-liberal daily Liberation, has launched a "social, ecological and republican" movement. Hoping to unite France's left ahead of the presidential election in 2022, Joffrin aims to provide an alternative to the Macron-Le Pen duel. But his fellow journalists are less than convinced by the initiative.

For a week now armed clashes have been raging in the border region between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the fiercest confrontations between the two nations since 2016. At least a dozen people have been killed. The frozen conflict over the Armenian-populated and occupied Nagorno-Karabakh area in Azerbaijan has been threatening to turn into a full-blown war for 30 years, but the current skirmishes are outside this region.
