Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the world's richest man with a fortune of 130 billion dollars, has announced plans to invest 10 billion dollars in climate protection and "saving the planet" with his newly founded Bezos Earth Fund. The first funds are to be made available as early as this summer, Bezos said on Instagram. Media in Europe are largely sceptical about the plans.

The National Agency for Education in Sweden has declared a general ban on wearing headscarves at schools to be incompatible with religious freedom and freedom of expression and therefore unconstitutional. The decision renders a headscarf ban issued by the southern Swedish municipality of Skurup at the end of last year invalid. Sweden's commentators applaud the move.

The EU member states are convening for a special summit on Thursday to hammer out an agreement on the EU budget for the period from 2021-2027. In the wake of tough discussions EU Council President Charles Michel has proposed a compromise: member States should pay 1.074 percent of their gross national income into the EU's coffers. European media see the budget as an investment in Europe's future.
