On the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day (3 May 2019), the EU issued a declaration recalling that the essential role of a free press not only as a conveyer of reliable and accurate news, but as a pillar of democracy.

The EU issued a declaration deeply regretting the full activation of the 1996 Helms-Burton (LIBERTAD) Act by the United States and stating that this will cause unnecessary friction and undermines trust and predictability in the transatlantic partnership.
