Debate: Is France doing enough to counter femicide?

More than 101 women have been killed in France by their partners or ex-partners since the start of the year. The government wants to take action and has announced plans to work out concrete measures for combating femicide together with women's organisations and prevention facilities by the end of November. It has set aside a million euros for this purpose. Commentators say more must be done.

Debate: Moscow: prison sentences for demonstrators

In Moscow several demonstrators have been handed down multi-year prison sentences. According to Russian news agencies one man was given a three-year prison sentence for pepper-spraying police, and a blogger has been sentenced to five years in a penal camp. Commentators criticise the sentences as unreasonably harsh.

Climate change will dramatically devalue farmland in southern Europe, EU agency reveals

Supporters of the Five Star Movement (M5S) votes yes to a new government lead by Giuseppe Conte, with 79 percent support through an online voting system, where 117,000 people were subscribed. On Wednesday Conte will go to president Sergio Mattarella to present a new government of M5S and the Democratic Party (PD). Former deputy prime minister and M5S leader Luigi Di Maio will become Italy's new foreign minister.
