On 7 December 2017, AFET/SEDE held an extraordinary joint hearing on North Korea to discuss the continuing deterioration of the security situation on the Korean Peninsula. The aim of the hearing is to assess the threat posed by the DPRK's nuclear and ballistic missile build-up and possible consequences for the global non-proliferation regime. Members will also analyse different options for the EU and international community to prevent further escalation of the crisis.

Im Vorfeld des EU-Gipfels haben Diplomaten aus den Visegrad-Ländern die finnische EU-Ratspräsidentschaft scharf für ein Papier kritisiert. Mit diesem sollen die Diskussion der Staats- und Regierungschefs über den nächsten Siebenjahreshaushalt des Blocks unterstützt werden.

Beamte aus Nordmazedonien und den Visegrad-Staaten haben am Mittwochabend erneut versucht, die Bedeutung der EU-Erweiterung für die Balkanregion zu unterstreichen. Doch Frankreich blockiert weiterhin.

Die Demokratische Unionistische Partei Nordirlands kündigte am heutigen Donnerstag an, sie könne den Brexit-Plan von Boris Johnson nicht unterstützen, da sie sich Sorgen um Zoll- und Mehrwertsteuerfragen macht. Dies ist ein schwerer Schlag für den britischen Premierminister, nur wenige Stunden...

Die europäischen Staats- und Regierungschefs versammeln sich am 17. und 18. Oktober in Brüssel zu einem Gipfel, um darüber zu diskutieren, ob, wie und wann das Vereinigte Königreich den Block verlassen wird.

On 14 October Members of the AFET Committee held an exchange of views with Minister Prystaiko. The discussions focused inter alia on the Euro-Atlantic foreign policy course of the new Ukrainian Government and prospects for further developments of EU-Ukraine relations, on the security situation in Eastern Ukraine and the "Steinmeier Formula", as well as on key reforms such as decentralisation, fight against corruption and the land reform.

Heute u.a. mit dabei: Merkel und Macron demonstrieren Einigkeit, die Beitrittsgespräche mit einigen Balkanstaaten kommen trotzdem nicht voran, und in Polen will man die Zeit zurückdrehen.

On 14 October Members of the AFET Committee held an exchange of views with Minister Nikola Dimitrov. The Foreign Minister underlined the need to reward the country’s achievements warning about possible disruptive effects of a failure to reach a positive Council decision this week. MEPs called upon the Council and especially France to open the well-deserved accession talks, underlining its strategic implications for the whole of the Western Balkans and the future generations.

Redner der Opposition haben der Bundesregierung Leisetreterei angesichts des türkischen Einmarschs in die Kurdengebiete Nordsyriens vorgeworfen.

Am Mittwochabend hatten die EU-Botschafter eigentlich schon einen Brexit-Deal zusammengezimmert, doch dann zogen die Briten die Reißleine. Im Prinzip aber gibt es einen Text, dem die EU zustimmen könnte. EURACTIVs Medienpartner Deutsche Welle berichtet. 

Die neue EU-Kommission von Ursula von der Leyen kann frühestens zum 1. Dezember starten. Die Führung des Europaparlaments entschied am Mittwoch, dass es kommende Woche keine Abstimmung über die Kommission mehr geben wird.

Weniger als einen Monat vor einer neuen Parlamentswahl tritt Spanien in eine der kompliziertesten und unberechenbarsten Perioden seiner jüngsten demokratischen Geschichte ein.
